Reflection and Goals

Posted on 2021-06-022023-01-13

I have spent the majority of my professional life in a very non-creative field (Software Engineering/Finance). A while back I began a journey to relearn the drawing skills I had given up on in my early 20s. I started by taking random online courses, and workshops at the local art gallery. It began with a desire to learn how to draw comic books, but that changed and evolved as my unfocused interests wandered about.

Over the last year, I came to the realization that in order to move forward into an art practice, I need more informed feedback and guidance than I was able to find on my own. Aspirationally, the idea of being able to pursue some form of professional artistic path would be something I’ve wanted for a long time.

What I hope to learn in my time with OCA:

  • How to critically engage with art, and its creation
  • A strong push out of my comfort zone to try new things
  • Address technical gaps such as composition
  • Confidence
